Diagnosis: Inner Tube Brain

While I was pregnant, other moms would tell me to watch out for “Mom Brain.”  After careful examination of my symptoms (i.e. turning on the washing machine before taking the clothes out, forgetting the three items I wanted to buy at the grocery store), I’ve diagnosed myself with this condition. Priorities Straight?

I learned a lesson about my priorities this week…

As I was scrambling to get to the New Moms Group, I looked in the mirror by the door and saw I wasn’t wearing mascara (I look like I have no eyelashes without it).  Yes, X-man was about to lose it as he sat bundled-up in the car seat.  Yes, I had workout clothes on, and my hair was a mess.  Yes, there were peas on the floor and all over the high chair.  Yes, there was a pile of clothes with poop on them in the bathroom.  Even with all that, I ran upstairs and applied mascara.  While I don’t need to be dolled-up every time I leave the house, I have priorities and today I learned that putting mascara on before leaving the house is one of them!

Lifestyle Changes, Not Resolutions

This is the “I’ve already not kept my New Year’s resolution” time of year.  I’ve never liked New Year’s resolutions for the following reasons:

  • I’ve never been good at keeping them.
  • It is too much to make a big change on the first of the year.
  • I always try to do too big of a change.

And what if I don’t keep my resolution?  It’s too easy to tell myself to wait until the next year to make a change. (more…)
